Mediated art takes over the Arts Centre despite the monsoonal downpour

Experimenta opened the Biennial of Media Art amidst monsoonal rain at the Arts Centre. Melbourne saw the first freestyle event in Flinders Street today – yes – people were actually swimming in the flood that was Flinders Street.

Meanwhile, media art of exquisite and interactively remarkable calibre inhabits the Black Box for a few weeks yet. Plenty of time to photocopy yourself to a wall, or play with objects in silhouette – if you are so inclined.

Yesterday, David and Thea Baumann (Aphids Executive Producer) went to Lucy Guerin Inc.’s beautiful studio in West Melbourne for a discussion group on research, and what it might mean for the company.

An amazing array of people were there, and some vigorous and inspiring debate took place about the importance of critical discourse around an artist’s work, and the often-impossible task of balancing the demands of running a small company with having the time and space to dream.

Chamber Made Opera sets up its first blog

Here I am in Sydney (Redfern to be precise) and my friend Peter Humble (an amazing film-maker) is helping me set up Chamber Made Opera’s first blog. Actually, Anna Cerneaz has also been helping me – she told me all about how she set up one for Pinchgut Opera – and last year she blogged nearly every single day (here’s the link – http://pinchgutopera.typepad.com/ – you can check for yourself!). No promises that I’ll be doing that, but you never know.

Anyway, here’s the new look blog – I just want to link it FaceBook and Twitter and whatever the new thing is going to be (implanto, maybe). So, back soon with more exciting blogs and a video or two too.
